Meet our CariScholar Mentors
Introducing our CariScholar (CS) Mentors. CS mentors are experienced academics and professionals from all over the Caribbean region. We currently have over 150 mentors hailing from Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Trinidad & Tobago. They have diverse expertise and are able to give advice on a wide range of subject areas. Our mentors have committed their time and effort towards guiding budding scholars from the Caribbean. Meet some of our current CariScholar Mentors below.
Verieux Mourillon
Verieux (Vow) Mourillon is a Dominican national. He is an expert in Leadership Development and has served in several esteemed positions throughout the Caribbean, including Director of Human Resource at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and Senior Assistant Registrar at the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC). He is currently the Executive Director of WIAL Caribbean.
D. Jimesha Prince
D. Jimesha Prince is a Vincentian national. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill) and a Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School. She has practised both civil and criminal law, and has served as Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. She is currently a Counselor/Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the United Nations.
Randall Martyr
Randall Martyr was born in St. Lucia. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (University of the West Indies, Cave Hill), a Master of Science in Mathematical Finance (University of Manchester), and a PhD in Financial Mathematics (University of Manchester). He is currently employed as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Queen Mary University of London.
Stephie Pascal
Stephie Pascal is from Dominica. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering (University College London) and a Master of Philosophy in Advanced Chemical Engineering (Cambridge University). She is currently employed as a Process Engineer at energy company, Centrica.
Sidney Jules
Sidney Jules was born and raised in Dominica. He holds an MEng in Engineering (University of Cambridge) with a specialisation in Energy, Sustainability and the Environment. He is currently pursuing a Master of Environmental Management Degree from Yale University, focusing on energy and environmental policy. His greatest subject interests are in STEM, Economics and International Studies.
Lanel Black
Lanel Black was born in St. Vincent. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Mathematics (University of the West Indies, Cave Hill). She is a Qualified Teacher and is currently employed as a Quality Assurance Officer with the East Caribbean Group of Companies.
Casey Destang
Casey Destang was born in St. Lucia. He is a 2007 Island Scholar, who holds a BSc in Accounting (UWI). Casey is an ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) member, and also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean (ICAEC). He is currently employed as a Tax Supervisor at Grant Thornton. Casey is passionate about education, volunteerism and French.
Shima Holder
Shima Holder was born in Barbados. She holds a BSc in Chemistry (UWI) and an MSc in Civil & Environmental Engineering (University of Surrey). She obtained her PhD from Da-Yeh University (Taiwan) and is now a Postdoctoral Researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden).
Lorenzo Belle
Lorenzo Belle is from the Island of Dominica and currently lives in Toronto. He fell in love with food while growing up in Dominica - inspired by the flavors and pairings used on the island. After moving to Canada, he incorporated those pairings into his own creations. He studied culinary at Humber College School of Culinary Arts and started his own company “Hidden Gems Private Chef Services”.
Cherysa KE Anselm
Cherysa KE Anselm was born in Dominica. She holds a BSc. in Biochemistry with Chemistry (University of the West Indies). In 2016, She successfully obtained a Chevening Scholarship and is currently pursuing her MSc. Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering (University College London). Cherysa is also a freelance vocalist with over ten years of experience.
Daniel Fadelle
Daniel Fadelle is a Dominican national born in Toronto, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Ottawa and a Graduate Certification in Project Management from Humber College. He is currently employed as a Program Coordinator at Loy-Education in South Korea.
Royette Tavernier
Royette Tavernier was born in Grand Bay, Dominica. She received her Associates Degree in General Liberal Arts from the University of St. Martin; BSc. in Psychology from Trent University (Ontario, Canada); MA in Child and Youth Studies and Ph.D. in Psychology from Brock University (Ontario, Canada). Tavernier is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, U.S.A.
