Introducing our CariScholar (CS) Mentors. CS mentors are experienced academics and professionals from all over the Caribbean region. We currently have approximately 150 mentors hailing from Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Trinidad & Tobago. They have diverse expertise and are able to give advice on a wide range of subject areas. Our mentors have committed their time and effort towards guiding budding scholars from the Caribbean. Verieux (Vow) Mourillon is a Dominican national. He is an expert in Leadership Development and has served in several esteemed positions throughout the Caribbean, including Director of Human Resource at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and Senior Assistant Registrar at the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC). He is currently the Executive Director of WIAL Caribbean.
D. Jimesha Prince is a Vincentian national. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill) and a Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School. She has practised both civil and criminal law, and has served as Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. She is currently a Counselor/Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the United Nations.
Randall Martyr was born in St. Lucia. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (University of the West Indies, Cave Hill), a Master of Science in Mathematical Finance (University of Manchester), and a PhD in Financial Mathematics (University of Manchester). He is currently employed as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Queen Mary University of London.
Stephie Pascal hails from Dominica. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering (University College London) and a Master of Philosophy in Advanced Chemical Engineering (Cambridge University). She is currently employed as a Process Engineer at energy company, Centrica.
Sidney Jules was born and raised in Dominica. He holds an MEng in Engineering (University of Cambridge) with a specialisation in Energy, Sustainability and the Environment. He is currently pursuing a Master of Environmental Management Degree from Yale University, focusing on energy and environmental policy. His greatest subject interests are in STEM, Economics and International Studies.
Lanel Black was born in St. Vincent. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Mathematics (University of the West Indies, Cave Hill). She is a Qualified Teacher and is currently employed as a Quality Assurance Officer with the East Caribbean Group of Companies.
Casey Destang was born in St. Lucia. He is a 2007 Island Scholar, who holds a BSc in Accounting (UWI). Casey is an ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) member, and also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean (ICAEC). He is currently employed as a Tax Supervisor at Grant Thornton. Casey is passionate about education, volunteerism and French.
Shima Holder was born in Barbados. She holds a BSc in Chemistry (UWI) and an MSc in Civil & Environmental Engineering (University of Surrey). She recently defended her Ph.D. thesis at Da-Yeh University (Taiwan) and has recently accepted an offer as a Postdoctoral Researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) starting August 2017.
Lorenzo Belle is from the Island of Dominica and currently lives in Toronto. He fell in love with food while growing up in Dominica - inspired by the flavors and pairings used on the island. After moving to Canada, he incorporated those pairings into his own creations. He studied culinary at Humber College School of Culinary Arts and started his own company “Hidden Gems Private Chef Services”.
Cherysa KE Anselm was born in Dominica. She holds a BSc. in Biochemistry with Chemistry (University of the West Indies). In 2016, She successfully obtained a Chevening Scholarship and is currently pursuing her MSc. Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering (University College London). Cherysa is also a freelance vocalist with over ten years of experience.
Daniel Fadelle is a Dominican national born in Toronto, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Ottawa and a Graduate Certification in Project Management from Humber College. He is currently employed as a Program Coordinator at Loy-Education in South Korea.
Royette Tavernier was born in Grand Bay, Dominica. She received her Associates Degree in General Liberal Arts from the University of St. Martin; BSc. in Psychology from Trent University (Ontario, Canada); MA in Child and Youth Studies and Ph.D. in Psychology from Brock University (Ontario, Canada). Tavernier is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, U.S.A.
Safraz Hussain is Guyanese and Barbadian. He holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (University of the West Indies) and a Legal Education Certificate (Hugh Wooding Law School). He is currently Legal Counsel at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank Limited.
Leah Wallace was born in Dominica. She holds Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems (University of D.C.) and a MBA from UMUC. She is currently a Manager within Deloitte Advisory’s Regulatory & Compliance practice. She is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Project Management Professional (PMP). She enjoys helping others develop professionally.
Andy Daniel was born in St. Lucia. He holds a BSc in Biomedical Engineering (Illinois Institute of Technology) and is currently pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. He focuses on developing techniques to diagnose and treat neurological disorders and has co-authored publications on brain mapping and epilepsy.
Alberta William-Henry hails from St. Lucia. She holds a BSc. in Chemistry and Mathematics (University of the West Indies) and an MPhil in Chemistry from the same institution. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in Education (Teaching of Science) from the UWI. Alberta is currently a Chemistry Lecturer. She is also a part-time portrait and Wedding Photographer, specialising in families, babies and bellies.
Bruce Afzal Hussain was born in Guyana and now resides in Canada. He possess a Degree in Nursing (Macewan University, Canada) and a Diploma in Health Psychology (University of Alberta, Canada) with numerous nursing courses. He has a passion for changing the stigma of mental health and is working towards improving wellness and providing exemplary patient care.
Marisa Greenwood was born in Guyana. She resides in the United Kingdom where she is an international trade and competition consultant. Marisa holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree in International Economic Law and Policy from the University of Barcelona (Spain), a Master of Science (M.Sc) degree from the University of the West Indies (Barbados), and a Bachelor degree from the University of Guyana (Guyana).
Satish Singh was born in St. Lucia. He holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Satish is currently employed at Philips Healthcare and works on the design and development of next generation medical devices for diagnostic imaging and image guided therapy
Shauna-kaye L. Brown is a multifaceted Jamaican who focuses on assisting individuals to manifest their greatness. She holds a BSc in International Relations and Political Science (UWI, Mona) and a LLB (UWI, Cave Hill). She also holds a Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School. She is currently employed as a Case Management Supervisor at Black Veterans for Social Justice.
Richie Maitland is an attorney-at-Law and the Co-Founder of Groundation Grenada, a human rights awareness collective. He is also a 2015/16 Chevening scholar and holds a Masters Degree in Human Rights Law.
Mutryce A. Williams, a native of St. Kitts and Nevis, is an International Relations and National Security Specialist who holds a doctorate in Public Policy Administration. She is also a Certified Homeland Protection Professional (CHPP), an educator, a former diplomat who served on the UNESCO Executive Board in Paris France, an award-winning women’s rights advocate and recognized poet.
Anderson Andall was born in Grenada. A UK trained Lawyer and Mediator, he holds a Law Degree from the University of East London; Masters of Law, Business & Management from the University of Law and the designation of ADR Group Accredited Civil & Commercial Mediator. He is currently an Attorney in Grenada and practices with the firm Wilkinson, Wilkinson and Wilkinson.
Nycole Joseph was born in Saint Lucia. She received her medical degree from Spartan Health Sciences University and pursued her clinical rotations at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. She is currently employed as a Neurology Resident Physician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota with interests in Cerebrovascular Accidents/Stroke and Neurological Intensive Care.
Donya L. Francis hails from St. Paul’s, St Kitts. He holds a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication (Ming Chuan University, Taipei, Taiwan). He is currently pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Global Health and Development at Taipei Medical University. Donya’s interests include writing and editing, talent coaching, designing, and working with young people.
Heidi Badenock, Vincentian by birth holds a Masters of Law degree in Banking and Finance from the University of London and is a qualified Barrister-at-Law/Attorney.
Heidi practices within the jurisdiction of St. Vincent and the Grenadines where her main area of focus is civil law.
Shawn Hercules was born in Barbados. He holds a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Chemistry (double major) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) both from UWI Cave Hill. Currently, he is pursuing his PhD in Biology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; investigating epidemiological and genetic profiles for triple negative breast cancer in women of African ancestry.
Tanya Carter hails from the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. A graduate of the University of the West Indies and the Hugh Wooding Law School, she holds a L.L.B (Hons), L.E.C. and L.L.M. in Corporate and Commercial Law. She is also a fellow of the United Nations having successfully completed the Regional Course in International Law.
Caesarina M. Paul hails from the Commonwealth of Dominica. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Psychology (Honors) from the Midwestern State University. She is currently the Youth Skills Training Instructor, prior to which she served as Coordinator of the Dominica Youth Business Trust for two years; both at the Youth Development Division.
Cieanna Smith hails from Jamaica. She is a graduate of the University of West Indies, Cave Hill Campus where she obtained a Bachelors of Law Degree. Cieanna is also a Graduate of Norman Manley Law School. She is currently at Attorney-at-Law at Abendana & Abendana in Jamaica. Her areas of practice include Estate Planning and Administration, Intellectual Property and Commercial Law. Cieanna is also one of the youngest attorneys in the Caribbean who focuses on Robotic Technology and the Law.
Dalano R. DaSouza was born and raised in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He holds a BSc. in Economics and Management, and a MSc. in Banking and Finance both from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. Dalano is currently employed as Finance Manager at ALVASCO (Barbados) Ltd. and is nearing completion of his Ph.D in Economic Development Policy (UWI). Dalano is passionate about youth development and the promotion of regional integration initiatives.
Camara C. Lee was born in St. Kitts and Nevis. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Management with Psychology (Hons) and Master of Science in International Management, both of which were obtained from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. She is currently employed as the Human Resource and Operations Manager at the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.
Nekelia Gregoire Carai was born and raised in Grand Bay, Dominica. She has a BSc. General Agriculture (UWI, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad). She also holds a Master's in Water Resources Management (Hons) from Lincoln University in collaboration with the University of Canterbury (New Zealand). Throughout her career, Miss Gregoire has been actively involved in youth activities in her community.
Mondel George is a young physician and Learning Strategist from the island of Grenada. He is extremely passionate about education and medicine. He is currently completing his masters of Education to add on to his M.D and Bsc. He is very active in volunteering in his community and looks forward in assisting others achieve their goals.
Yanique Henry was born in Jamaica and has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the West Indies. She also received the Certificate of Legal Education from the Norman Manley law school in Jamaica. She is a practicing Attorney-at Law and is currently employed as the Senior Clerk of Court /prosecutor for the parish of St. James.
Ornella Cyrus was born in Trinidad and Tobago. She holds a BSc in Biology minors in Psychology and Management Studies (UWI) and a Masters in Public Health (University of Sheffield). She is the first CARICOM National to participate in the ERASMUS MUNDUS European Public Health Dual Masters Programme and is currently completing the MPH - Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics at EHESP - French School of Public Health.
Raquel Frederick grew up in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. She graduated with honours in Economics and Statistics from Smith College. She also holds a Master of International Affairs specialising in Economic and Political Development from Columbia University. Raquel is currently an Economic Research Analyst at the Caribbean Development Bank in Barbados.
Kneath Warrington was born in Dominica. He holds an International MBA in Finance (SNHU) and is currently pursuing an MS in Operations and Project Management (SNHU). He is currently a Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Army. He is certified as a lean six sigma black belt and is a highly experienced management consultant.
Nicole McFarlane was born in Central Jamaica. She holds a B.A. in Biology (The College of Wooster, Ohio). She worked as an Environmental Control Technician (Ben Venue Laboratories) and as a Research Biologist (WIL Research Laboratories now Charles River Laboratories). She recently began her M.Sc. in Biology at McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada); investigating genetic factors responsible for E.coli survival.
Carlyn Fleming was born in Dominica. She holds a BBA in Finance and Investments from Baruch College, City University of New York. She is currently employed as a Business Valuation Consultant within the M&A Risk and Financial Advisory practice at Deloitte.
Gordon Brown was born and raised in Jamaica. He holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from the UWI, St. Augustine Campus, and recently completed his MSc in Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London as a Commonwealth Scholar. He is currently based in Kingston where he is employed as a Design Engineer at Fluid Systems Engineering Limited. His main projects to date have dealt with the rehabilitation and upgrade of wastewater treatment plants.
As a young enthusiastic Dominican optometrist, Stephanie Jean Jacques holds a BSc. Optometry degree from the University of Guyana, and is currently completing her MSc Public Health for Eye Care degree at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Stephanie is interested in using her skills to promote eye health as a priority in the Caribbean region.
Khian Lamey was born in Jamaica. She holds a LL.B from the University of the West Indies and an MBA from the Mona School of Business and Management. She currently works in Taxation Law.
Steven Jemmott was born in Barbados. He holds a BSc in Computer Science and Electronics (UWI), as well as an MSc in Mobile Application Design (University of Kent, UK). Currently, he operates a personal business which focuses on mobile application development and user experience design solutions for small businesses.
Alicia C. Lawrence was born in Jamaica and is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus), where she obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honours. She is also a graduate of the Norman Manley Law School and was admitted to the Jamaican and later the Grenadian Bar, where she now practices as a civil litigation Attorney-at-Law.
Dominica’s first TEDx Speaker on Climate Change and Life Expectations. Dahlia A Ducreay, better known as Dee, was born in Dominica. She holds two degrees in International Economics and Trade and Professional Accounting. Her areas of expertise are Social, Economic and Educational Development. She is currently the Americas and Caribbean Representative at The Commonwealth Society of Beijing.
Justin was born and raised in Barbados. He holds a BSc. Ecology and Earth Sciences (UWI) and an MSc. Integrated Landscape Ecology (Cranfield University, UK). Justin is currently employed by GIZ Grenada to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment as part of the International Water Stewardship Program.
Teressa Alexander is Trinidadian. She completed a BSc in Physics (Morgan State University). She then spent two years as a research fellow at Harvard University, where she realized her passion for science journalism, education and policy. Currently, Teressa is pursuing a PhD in plant physiology (cocoa research) at the UWI, and is the founder of Think tank Caribbean Network.
Lien Philogene-Norville, born in Dominica, is the past Secretary General and Executive Vice- President of the JCI Dominica. She is the CEO of a start-up business and a 2018 YLAI Fellow. She is currently pursuing her BSc. in Banking and Finance (minor in Compliance and Corporate Governance) at the UWI and has ten years’ experience as an Administrative Assistant.
Julian Samuel was born in Barbados. He holds a Bachelor of Medical Sciences and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S) from UWI, Mona Campus. He is currently employed as a Resident Physician in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, Mount Sinai West, and Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City.
Anthony M. Sylvester is Trinidadian. He holds a DPhil in Social Research (Oxford Graduate School, USA), an M.A. in Counselling (Caribbean Nazarene College), a B.A. in Pastoral Studies (Caribbean College of the Bible International), and a B.Sc. in Public Administration (UWI). He is a Minister of Christ, counsellor, and management consultant. He is currently the Associate Dean of Education at CCBI.
Jerelle A Joseph was born in Dominica. She holds a BSc in Chemistry and Mathematics (University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus), an MPhil in Chemistry (UWI), and a PhD in Chemistry (University of Cambridge). She is currently employed as a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Physics, University of Cambridge.
Dariano Joseph was born in The Bahamas to parents who migrated from Haiti and Barbados, respectively. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Networks & Communication Management (DeVry University) and an Associate of Science in Computer Systems Management (Success Training College). He is currently employed as the IT Manager for Application and Systems Support at Ross University School of Medicine.
Marita Marshall is a physiotherapist born in Barbados. She holds a BSc. in Physical Therapy (UWI Mona) and a Masters in Sports & Biomechanical Medicine (Dundee UK). She currently operates her own private physiotherapy practice, Physiotherapy & Optimal Performance Services (POPS) and is the founder of The Health & Wellness Physios Inc., both in Barbados. Her specialty is sports rehabilitation.
Shwingping Thomas was born in St. Maarten but grew up in Dominica. She holds a BSc in Chemistry (University of Winnipeg) and an MBA in Leadership & Organizations, and Sustainability (University of Manitoba). She is currently employed as a Project Manager in the radiopharmaceutical industry in Quebec, Canada. As a former part-time Post-Graduate Instructor, she is passionate about using her knowledge to help others and contribute to their academic achievements.
Leota King was born and resides in Guyana, SA. She holds a BSc. in Management (University of Guyana) and a Graduate Certificate in Management (Australia Institute of Business). She is currently employed as a Monitoring & Evaluation Officer at Creative Associates International. She has several years of experience working in various spheres including administration, finance, sales & marketing and project management.
Asher Williams was born in Trinidad and Tobago to a Jamaican father and Trinidadian mother. She holds a B.S. in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering from New York University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She is currently the first Black Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University where she is researching vaccine development.
Chad Morton was born and raised in Saint Kitts. He received a B.S. in Chemistry from Southern Connecticut State University and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Rockefeller University with a research interest in neuroscience. He is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the sciences and works to support DEIJ efforts at his institution and in the wider community.
Courtnae Bailey is a Vincentian. She holds a BSc in Mathematics with Earth Sciences from the UWI Cave Hill Campus. She completed her MSc in Hydrology and Water Resources Management from Imperial College London and the MSc Climate Change Management and Finance from Imperial College Business School. Courtnae is currently completing her PhD in Climate Finance at Imperial College London.
Alyvonnetta Levarity was born in Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas. She has over twenty years of experience as a Human Resources professional. She holds a BBA in Management and an A.A in Computer Data Processing from the College of the Bahamas. She is certified in HR Management from Columbia Southern University and a certified HR Professional from the Society of Human Resources.
